A Ruskin pottery jug or handled vase

of bulbous form with a flared lip and coloured in a graduated deep blue, orange, green and cream crystalline glaze. The crystalline glazes are so called because small crystals can be seen in the surface of the glaze. The micro-crystalline glaze on this jug has a matt or slightly gloss surface with visible zinc, titanium, chrome or uranium silicate crystals

Excellent condition

Ruskin Pottery was made in Smethwick between 1898 and 1935. The company created small numbers of high quality pieces, receiving international recognition for the stunning array of glazes produced. The glazes were devised by William Howson Taylor and included misty soufflé glazes, crystalline or ice crystal effect glazes, lustre glazes resembling metallic finishes, and “sang de boeuf”
