squatting on a circular plinth, toes clasped in front, thick tale curled up to one side, staring ahead with its large unblinking eyes, its textured reptilian skin glazed in a wonderful deep blue and iridescent green

This is the work of the Hungarian artist Morvay Zsuzsa. Born in 1946, she is a self-taught ceramicist. In 1983 she was awarded First Prize in decorative ceramics at the World's Fair in Paris, in 1998 she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic. She opened a gallery in Darmstadt, Germany in 1998 then moved and worked in South Africa for five years. She currently lives in Spain, but is also a regular exhibitor in Hungary. Her work is characterised by a blue-green colour and figural compositions depicting objects, people and animals alike.
