A rare Chelsea saucer

Of octagonal form, painted in a wonderfully pale Kakiemon palette with the 'Flaming Tortoise' pattern, the centre finely painted with a coiled turquoise dragon surrounded by a double ring of red and gold with a continuous blue/green landscape beyond depicting with two cranes, one in flight, one stationary, and a small mystical flame-like creature amongst pine trees and flowering shrubs

Circa 1750 

Raised anchor period

Diameter 12.2 cm

Very tiny filled rim nick

Most of the other examples of this patten have a border of tightly packed iron-red flowers and leaves, on this rare example there is simply a brown rim
