SOLD

A rare 18th century Bow porcelain figure of a musician set on elaborate Rococo scrolled base highlighted in puce and dark blue, and resting on a tree trunk amidst foliage, he sits with a straight back, dressed in blue breeches, a floral waistcoat and long pink jacket, his violin tucked under his chin, supported by his left shoulder. I particularly love the rigidity of this gentleman's form and the expression on the his face; from one angle he looks confident, almost arrogant, yet from another he looks bewildered and lost, perhaps a little unsure of himself and his ability to keep up with the rest of the orchestra

Circa 1760 - 1765

Height 12.75 cm

A section of the base repaired

I had listed this gentleman and lady musician as a pair but since there is such a difference in the moulding of the base I feel they are better represented as individual pieces
