A Very Rare 18th Century Lowestoft Blue & White Tureen Stand

Of oval shape with a flat rim decorated with a scroll and flower type border, the interior moulded with narrow ribs that radiate from a central oval panel which has been painted in underglaze blue in the style of a Chinese river scene of a figure carrying a parasol at the water's edge, a flowering rock, vegetation and a small house behind, whilst on the opposite bank another house under darkening clouds and birds in flight

Painter's numeral '2' inside the foot rim

Width 17.75    Depth 14 cm

Circa 1760 - 1764

Excellent condition

An identical tureen stand is pictured in the Norfolk Castle Museum Catalogue plate 36 fig 639 which is described on page 237
